Cam Skattebo Injured During Long Career In Giants’ Overtime Win, Latest RB Updates
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo’s longest streak of his career came at a price.
Skattebo told ESPN’s Dan Graziano that he suffered a hamstring injury on his 42-yard run that helped set up Devin Singletary’s game-winning 30-yard touchdown run in Sunday’s 27-21 overtime victory against the Houston Texans.
βItβs a good thing we have a week off,β Skattebo told Graziano.
Despite the good vibes from Sunday’s win, Skattebo’s admission dampens things down a bit. The 24-year-old was limited to eight games during his rookie season after suffering a dislocated ankle. So it would be disappointing to see him miss time due to another injury during his sophomore campaign.
Skattebo led the Giants with 17 carries for a career-high 124 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s win. It was his first career 100-yard game, and it helped the Giants improve to 4-2-1, maintaining their lead in the NFC East in what was expected to be a rebuilding year.
In addition to Skattebo’s big performance and Singletary’s game-winning score, the Giants also got rushing touchdowns from Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Jameis Winston, the latter of whom had four carries after losing his starting quarterback job to JJ McCarthy. In total, New York totaled 188 yards on the ground.
The Giants will be off in Week 8 before returning to action against the Philadelphia Eagles on November 8, so Skattebo will have a little more time to recover from his hamstring injury before returning to the field.
