Canadian family desperately ‘tried to fight off’ masked intruders before CEO and daughters shot dead and wife attacked
A Canadian family desperately tried to fight off masked intruders in their mansion before a real estate CEO father and his daughters were shot dead and his wife attacked with a hammer, according to a report.
MAC Group boss David Morton and his family were attacked around 3:45 a.m. Thursday at their gated property in Toronto’s upscale Bridle Path neighborhood.
Morton and his daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, were shot and hit with a hammer while “trying to fight off” three men wearing hoodies and ski masks, while his wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, was also injured by the hammer, a source told the Toronto Sun.
Two of the victims suffered “life-altering injuries” and remain in hospital, while the others have non-life-threatening injuries, Toronto Police Service Inspector Kristy Smith said.
Police did not provide a description of the suspects, but said they gained access to the six-bedroom residence through a back door.
The seven-bathroom home is valued at $2.1 million and includes a tennis court, in-ground pool and private gardens to “enhance a luxurious lifestyle,” according to an online listing.
The intruders reportedly fled the luxury nabe in an SUV, officials said.
“There was a violent interaction. There was a demand for valuables inside the home. It’s uncertain at this point whether or not they made off with anything,” Smith said.
“A wealthy area where people would have things they wanted would be the motivation for this,” she added.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow asked anyone with information, including images, to come forward and insisted that “violence is not acceptable in our city.”
“I am deeply troubled by the violent home invasion early this morning in the Bridle Path neighborhood. My thoughts are with the family and their loved ones, who are going through something no family should ever have to face. I pray for their full recovery,” Chow wrote on X.
The family-owned MAC Group focuses on real estate, executive corporate housing, global mobility and luxury villas in the Caribbean, according to its website.
Morton is CEO, while his wife is president and their daughter Maggie is listed as an employee. Their other daughter, Cristina, runs Zohil-Morton Law, an immigration law firm.
