Capcom prepares for a ‘future where we create games with AI’
Capcom Pragmats It may just be about the horrors of AI, but in practice the studio doesn’t seem that down on technology. At the Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026, programmer Satoshi Ishida gave a presentation with a headline: “The outlook and future of the REX project, further evolving the RE engine for the next generation.” During the talk, he outlined the challenges faced by studios producing games on the scale of Resident Evil, which can make even simple tasks extremely time-consuming. According to Ishida, the solution is to “successfully integrate AI technology into development workflows.”
Capcom previously stated that it would not use AI-generated assets in its games and would instead focus on using the technology to make development more efficient. Ishida’s comments seem to line up, but definitely seem to leave the door open for more widespread use. He outlined a plan to slowly and gradually transform RE Engine into an “AI-generation game engine” toward a “future where we create games with AI,” according to IGN translation.
