Love injured his ankle during Sunday’s win over the Dallas Cowboys when his ankle rolled during a tackle. He managed to get up to walk to the sideline, but did not return to the game as the Cardinals rallied from a 14-3 halftime deficit for a 33-30 overtime victory.
The ankle injury is Love’s third and most serious since the Cardinals selected him third overall in April’s NFL draft.
Love’s growing ankle injury history
Love previously sprained his right ankle during the preseason, causing him to miss several preseason games. He was set to play in Arizona’s Week 1 game against the Chargers.

The Cardinals revealed after a Week 4 loss to the Giants that Love was dealing with a left ankle injury. This injury sidelined him from games against the Rams and Broncos in Weeks 6 and 7. He returned from this injury to face the Cowboys before re-injuring his right ankle before halftime.
Now, Love is looking at an extended absence with the third ankle injury of his rookie season.
As the third overall draft pick this spring, Love is an important part of Arizona’s long-term plans. He was a star at Notre Dame who earned first-team All-America honors and the Doak Walker Award as college football’s top running back as a junior. He had 1,652 yards from scrimmage and 21 total touchdowns in 2025 while averaging 6.9 yards per carry.

In six games with the Cardinals, Love has 268 rushing yards and one touchdown on 3.5 yards per carry. He also has 11 catches for 36 yards and a touchdown.
With Love sidelined, Tyler Allgeier takes over in Arizona. Allgeier ran for 147 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries against the Cowboys. He also caught five passes for 44 yards and another touchdown.
