Casey Bloys Says HBO Max and Paramount+ Will Likely Be Bundled
Casey Bloys isn’t ready to say much about HBO’s near-term future under Paramount — it’s just not his place, he said (repeatedly) on Thursday.
For everyone else in the industry, Bloys is clearly set to lead the combined streaming efforts of HBO (and Discovery) and Paramount once the Paramount Skydance-Warner Bros. merger takes place. Discovery officially closed on October 6. To make room, former Paramount+ and Pluto TV chief Cindy Holland is leaving; Bloys has one year left on his WBD contract.
HAS BloombergAt the Screentime 2026 event, Bloys was invited to discuss his fairly immediate professional future. Like, for starters, does he get the top streaming job?
“Obviously there was news this week, and obviously there is news across the board. I will say the merger is not complete,” Bloys responded. “I believe David (Ellison) and the team want to announce their leadership structure – it’s not my place to announce, so I don’t have any news to confirm.”
OK, great, but what about the streaming platforms themselves? Will HBO Max and Paramount+ combine into one giant direct-to-consumer service?
“I would say I don’t want to comment on what’s going to happen or anything like that, but I would point out the HBO Max-Disney bundle, which has been very successful,” Bloys said.
“So, could you see something like that happening? That would make a lot of sense,” he asked, then responded.
David Ellison is currently the CEO of Paramount Skydance; Mattel’s Ynon Kreiz has been named co-CEO. Bloys doesn’t believe either man is looking to change what the best brand of prestige television has done so well for decades.
“I’ve had conversations with David, and he’s very, very enthusiastic, very respectful of what the team at HBO has done — not just during my tenure — but the entire history of HBO, and he’s excited,” Bloys said. “So I think, like every owner we’ve had, we’ve had people who are really enthusiastic and eager to maintain what we’ve done, and I believe he will.”
