Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen are set to star as father and son in the comedy series “Happy Jack” on AMC and AMC+, Variety learned.
The multi-camera comedy will begin production on a six-episode first season in Los Angeles early next year for a 2027 launch on AMC. It will be filmed in front of a live audience at Warner Bros. Studios, the same studio where “Friends” was filmed. AMC Global Media will present the series to international buyers at MIPCOM in October.
The show’s logline reads:
“Charlie Sheen plays Jack, a lifelong ne’er-do-well. He has two wonderful daughters (although his father, played by Martin Sheen, deserves more credit for how they turned out). Kate runs Jack’s business and keeps him running while Sam is a wild child who is more like his father. When Sam comes home to introduce everyone to his new boyfriend, Jack is shocked to learn that Paul, a former investment banker turned life guru in van, is the same age as him. Shocked at first (hypocrisy be damned), Jack quickly realizes that he has a choice to make. Will he continue to look for number one, or take this last chance to truly be a part of his daughters’ lives?
Jim Patterson and Matt Ross are writers, executive producers and co-showrunners. Charlie serves as executive producer in addition to acting. Todd Christopher, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum and Jason Wang of The Tannenbaum Company and 20th Television also serve as executive producers. AMC Studios produced.

“Happy Jack” is the latest collaboration between Charlie and Martin. Martin earned one of his Emmy nominations for his guest role in “Two and a Half Men,” while he played the father of Charlie’s character in “Anger Management.” The two also played father and son in “Wall Street” and “No Code of Coduct” and appeared together in films like “Cadence” (which Martin also directed), “Free Money” and “Hot Shots Part Deux” in perhaps Martin’s biggest appearance of all time.
“I’ve always heard the moments that really matter happen when they’re supposed to happen,” Charie said. “The good people at AMC played a big role in deciding that this time was now. It’s no secret that it’s been a minute, and I’m thrilled to return to television in such a meaningful way on an equally wonderful show. The team has come back together – suffice to say, it’s time to give the people what they want.”
Charlie starred on “Two and a Half Men” for eight seasons, earning four Emmy nominations for his work on the series. After his very public departure from that series, he continued to star in the multi-camera series “Anger Management.” Sheen previously starred in “Spin City,” reprising the lead role in the series from Michael J. Fox. Most recently, he appeared in the HBO Max series “Bookie,” which reunited him with “Two and a Half Men” co-creator Chuck Lorre. In film, Charlie is known for his roles in “Wall Street”, “Platoon”, the films “Hot Shots” and “Major League”.
Martin Sheen is one of the most famous actors of modern times. He is a ten-time Emmy Award nominee, including six nominations for his starring role in Aaron Sorkin’s “The West Wing.” He won an Emmy for his guest role in “Murphy Brown” in 1994. He is best known for his roles in films, which include such critically acclaimed features as “Apocalypse Now,” “Gandhi,” “Gettysburg,” “The American President” and “The Departed.”
Patterson previously worked with Sheen on “Two and a Half Men,” with Patterson rising to showrunner of the popular CBS series following Charlie’s departure. Ross was also a writer and producer on the series in the years following Charlie. The duo also previously collaborated on the Netflix multi-camera comedy “The Ranch.”
Charlie is repped by WME and Goodman Genow. Martin is replaced by Paradigm. Patterson is replaced by UTA and Hansen Jacobson. Ross is replaced by UTA and TFC.
