The Kansas City Chiefs offense started hot as Patrick Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce on a 41-yard run that flipped the field and put the Chiefs on the Seattle Seahawks 34-yard line. Mahomes then found Jalen Royals on a drag route for another first down.
The drive stopped, but Harrison Butker gave the Chiefs the first lead of the game with a field goal.
Sam Darnold tried to replicate what Mahomes did on the first drive, throwing a deep ball to Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 37-yard gain before the receiver was forced out of bounds.
The Seahawks drive would also stop, giving Jason Myers a field goal attempt. The attempt was unsuccessful.
Kenneth Walker got revenge on his former team by finding the end zone for the first touchdown of the game.
End of first quarter: Chiefs 10, Seahawks 0
The Seahawks opened the quarter with a punt.
Mahomes found Xavier Worthy for an 18-yard gain on third down to keep the drive alive and move the ball to the Chiefs 41-yard line.
Walker put the Chiefs at midfield with a screen pass to the Seahawks 45-yard line. Kelce then completed a third down conversion to move the ball to the 29 yard line. On the next play, Kelce passed the 100-yard mark and took the Chiefs to the 8-yard line.
Noah Gray finished the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run on a flat, hard route into the end zone.
AJ Barner helped the Seahawks cross midfield as the two-minute warning approached. Smith-Njigba recorded his third catch of the game and picked up a first down. Rasheed Shaheed then took a deep crossing route in stride before being tackled at the 1-yard line.
The Chiefs defense stood tall with the Seahawks backed up near the end zone, holding them to a field goal and giving Mahomes 36 seconds to work before halftime.
End of second quarter: Chiefs 17, Seahawks 3
The Seahawks opened the second half with a drive that reached the Chiefs 28-yard line before settling for a field goal, cutting the deficit to 11 points.
Mahomes did his best Michael Jordan impersonation, completing a pass to Xavier Worthy for a 15-yard gain. Worthy then caught a pass on a hard flat for 10 yards, converting a crucial fourth-and-2 at the Seahawks 40-yard line.
Justin Watson capped the 13-play drive with a touchdown, giving the Chiefs a commanding lead.
End of third quarter: Chiefs 24, Seahawks 6
Sam Darnold picked up a first down with his legs on fourth-and-3 to keep the Seahawks’ drive alive. Tory Horton then caught an 11-yard slant to move Seattle to the Chiefs’ 18-yard line with five minutes remaining.
On their second attempt to convert a fourth-and-3, the Seahawks attempted to connect with running back Emanuel Wilson on a Texas route. However, Nick Bolton blew up the play to force a turnover on downs and help seal the victory for the Chiefs.
