China Open: Novak Djokovic wins his 102nd career title, Carlos Alcaraz wins the Japan trophy
Earlier, Alcaraz won the Japan Open, claiming a trophy in only his third tournament since injuring his wrist in April.
The Spaniard came back from an early defeat to beat Czech Jiri Lehecka 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 and successfully defend his title in Tokyo.
Alcaraz did not return to competitive tennis until the US Open in August, where he reached the quarterfinals before losing in five close sets to Ben Shelton.
This is Alcaraz’s third title of the season, having won the Australian Open in January to complete the career Grand Slam, as well as the Qatar Open in February.
“It’s very special after my injury,” said the 25-year-old.
“It was a difficult week where I didn’t find my best tennis, my best level, but I found the right solutions.
“I think that’s what matters in the end.”
