Kaia Gerber and Cindy Crawford have posted public tributes to Presley Gerber for the first time since his death last month. Presley, Crawford’s son and Kaia’s older brother, died of a fatal overdose at a rehabilitation center after years of struggling with addiction and his mental health. “We are heartbroken to lose our beloved son and brother,” Crawford posted on his Instagram, alongside a photo of Presley taken by Sebastián Faena. “We feel so lucky to have had Presley in our lives for 27 years. He is a gentle, beautiful soul who loved and is loved, now and forever. We are so proud of the way he showed himself in the world, with kindness and vulnerability. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from so many people who know and love our family and even strangers who feel our pain. Until we find our sweet boy. We love you forever, mom, dad and Kaia.” Rande Gerber, Crawford’s husband and Presley’s father, posted the same message and photo on his Instagram.
Kaia’s post included photos and videos of her and her brother from childhood, as well as a lyrical essay about their relationship. “I don’t have the words. And maybe the small pity is that we haven’t needed them all along,” she wrote. “Words fail and words subtract and words summarize and words always fall short of truth. And how naive of me to believe that language could transcend grief. I have read every book and I have none of the answers. My articulation is not up to this magnitude, the magnitude of your loss. I am, literally, on my knees.”
She told stories from their childhood that formed their strong bond. “I keep thinking that when we were little I was scared before I got my ears pierced, so you went first,” she wrote. “You always came first. But when I was holding the earring they took from your body, all I could think was: This belongs to you. And I really wish you hadn’t gone first this time.”
