Circumstances of Hayden Panettiere’s death revealed as authorities close case
South Carolina authorities announced Wednesday that an investigation found that the Aug. 16 death of Hayden Panettiere was accidental and that the case is now closed.
“Based on the medical examiner’s determination and the findings of the investigation, the death of Hayden Panettiere has been ruled accidental,” Greenville, South Carolina, officials said.
Paramedics and police found Panettiere in cardiac arrest, according to the coroner’s office. Broadcastify.com broadcast audio recordings reference a possible overdose and CPR in progress. Narcan was allegedly administered to her and paramedics attempted to resuscitate her. She was pronounced dead at 2:31 p.m.
Federal authorities investigating Panettiere’s death are focusing their investigation in Los Angeles and are looking into whether the actor obtained over-the-counter pills from a dealer in the area.
Drug Enforcement Administration agents and local investigators questioned several people about the circumstances of his death.
Such counterfeit pills have repeatedly been found to contain fentanyl, which can be deadly when taken in small amounts.
Panettiere starred in “Nashville” (2012-18) and, before that, “Heroes” (2006-10). Her early work as a child actress included roles in the 1990s on the soap operas “One Life to Live” and “Guiding Light.” She was a model and singer and released several singles.
Panettiere also starred in the “Scream” horror film franchise as well as the hits “I Love You, Beth Cooper” and “Remember the Titans.”
She gained attention with “Heroes,” in which she played a cheerleader with superpowers.
In “Nashville,” she played a struggling country music star, singing herself. She received two Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actress for this role.
