Coast Guard suspends search for missing boater after fatal accident off Manchester-by-the-Sea Beach
MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA, Mass. —
One person was killed after a boat crashed Saturday off Slinging Beach in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Essex County Prosecutor Paul Tucker said.
The accident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. The Coast Guard received reports of a boat in distress, where three male passengers and a dog were in the water.
Two men, aged 67 and 65, were found and transported to nearby hospitals. The 67-year-old man was later pronounced dead.
A 37-year-old man who was also on the boat has not been found and remains missing. The dog has been located and is alive.
The Coast Guard suspended the search for the missing man Sunday afternoon.
“The decision to suspend a search is never taken lightly,” said Capt. Jamie Frederick, Sector Boston commander. “Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy. We are grateful to our local, state and federal partners who supported the search efforts.”
