College Football Rankings Coaches Poll: Miami is No. 1 after Week 7
Updated October 18, 2026, 11:36 p.m. ET
If last week in college football was chaos, this week was carnage with five teams ranked in the top eight losing. Needless to say, the US LBM Coaches Poll looks considerably different after Week 7. Naturally, it starts at the top for the third week in a row.
Miami (Fla.) is the new No. 1 team, even though the Hurricanes have almost been bitten by the surprise bug themselves. The Hurricanes are at the top of the poll for the first time since Dec. 9, 2002, after surviving a double overtime against Florida State. The ‘Canes received 50 of the 73 first-place votes cast this week.
Ohio State moves back up to No. 2 after outlasting previously undefeated Indiana. The Buckeyes earned 13 first-place finishes and finished 27 points ahead of Brigham Young, who toppled Notre Dame and kept the Irish from reaching first place. The Cougars’ third-place finish is the highest since USA TODAY began administering the coaches’ poll in 1991. They finished first in the coaches’ poll in 1984. BYU was chosen first by 10 voters after the Notre Dame victory and made its first appearance in the top five since a fifth-place finish in the final poll of the 1996 season.

Mississippi moves up three spots to No. 7, while Notre Dame slips to No. 8. Utah and UCLA, who both managed to go undefeated, round out the top 10.
Tennessee moves up to 11th after toppling Alabama, which drops six spots to 13th behind 12th-ranked Kentucky. Texas, No. 1 just two weeks ago, fell 12 places to 18th after a second straight loss. Florida, which is responsible for said result against the Longhorns, joins the poll at 24th with the 23rd in the Northwest.
