  • Utah replaced Brigham Young in the top five of the NCAA rankings after a key victory over Houston.
  • Ohio State remains the top-ranked team, followed by Miami, Georgia, Utah and Indiana.
  • BYU fell to No. 6 after a loss to Central Florida, while Texas Tech fell to No. 29.

Brigham Young falls out of the top five, but a Big 12 rival steps in to replace the Cougars in USA TODAY Sports’ 1-138 NCAA re-ranking.

After losses to BYU and Texas Tech, Utah picked up a key victory against Houston to move up to No. 4 in the new rankings.

A week after a huge win over Notre Dame, BYU fell three spots to No. 6 after losing to Central Florida.

The decline was much greater for the Red Raiders. A weak schedule and a one-sided loss to Cincinnati drop Tech to 29th, last among one-loss Power Four teams.

Ohio State remains No. 1, followed by Miami. Georgia moved up one spot to No. 3 and Indiana moved up to No. 5 after an overtime win over Michigan.

UPS AND DOWN: Week 8 winners and losers led by Big 12 flop

Two SEC teams moved into (or joined) the top 10 in No. 9 Kentucky and No. 10 Texas. The 7-1 Wildcats lead the SEC standings after beating Vanderbilt. The Longhorns bounced back from two straight losses to win a must-win game against Ole Miss. The Rebels dropped to 12th.

Another unpredictable weekend led to double-digit declines for several Big Ten teams in No. 23 Iowa (down 11), No. 30 USC (down 15) and No. 39 Oregon (down 11).
