Commanders star Terry McLaurin was ruled out after suffering a knee injury early in the loss to the 49ers.
The Washington Commanders lost star wide receiver Terry McLaurin early Monday night after suffering what appears to be a serious knee injury.
McLaurin was running a route late in the first quarter of Washington’s 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers when he suddenly fell near the sideline at Levi’s Stadium. The replay showed McLaurin’s left knee gave out and buckled as he planted to the outside.

He remained on the field in front of the commanders’ bench for a good while, visibly in great pain.
A cart eventually came out for McLaurin, and he jumped onto the vehicle under his own power with his entire left leg in the air. Players from both teams then saw him leave.
Commanders quickly ruled him out with a knee injury. Head coach Dan Quinn said after the game that he didn’t have any details, but was concerned the injury was significant.

McLaurin had one catch for 27 yards before going down.
McLaurin entered Monday with 203 receiving yards and just one touchdown in four games this season, his eighth in the league with the Commanders. He missed the team’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts in London due to a hamstring injury he suffered in practice before that contest before returning the following week.
While it’s unclear how long McLaurin might be out, the injury is a tough sign for a Commanders group that is struggling this season. The Commanders sit at 1-4-1, which puts them in last place in the NFC East race. Even though they rallied a little late and had a good look at the victory on Monday night, they were unable to achieve it.

The win pushed the 49ers to a perfect 6-0 record this year, which is the best record in the league. Only two other teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings, are also still undefeated.
The NFC East is still wide open, so the Commanders aren’t completely out of the playoff race yet despite their rough start. But losing a target like McLaurin for a significant amount of time is going to make things a lot tougher for quarterback Jayden Daniels as the season’s midpoint approaches.
