Content creator’s cheesesteak stunt goes wrong
It started as a click and ended with a trip to the police station. Philadelphia authorities say a content creator seen in a viral video throwing a cheesesteak at a Pat’s King of Steaks employee turned himself in Thursday, a day after the South Philly incident sparked an assault investigation. Charges are pending, WPVI reports, and police are reviewing footage posted by the man himself, in which he claims he throws food at workers if he doesn’t like it. “The guy was playing with the sandwich. I have it on video, he just tore the sandwich apart with his hands,” owner Frank Olivieri told NBC10 of the incident involving Tom Francano, a 47-year-old employee. “The guy picked up the sandwich, threw it in his face and ran away, dropping him.” Olivieri had offered a $5,000 reward.
Pat’s co-owner Rita Marie Oliveri, whose family-owned store has been in business for nearly a century, called the act an “assault” and said the phone “is ringing off the hook” with her support. Even rival Geno’s Steaks has publicly supported Pat’s, with one representative noting, “He’s someone’s grandfather.” Pat is now considering banning cameras.
