Corruption trial of former New York official highlights Eric Adams’ early concerns about facing scrutiny as mayor

NEW YORK – Eric Adams was worried.

He had just been elected mayor of New York and was in the Dominican Republic for a few days with his senior advisor, Ingrid Lewis-Martin, and now they needed someone to immediately go to his campaign offices and clear out the place.

“Ingrid just called me, and we need to take care of something like as soon as possible“, Eric Ulricha campaign surrogate who was later named Adams’ building commissioner, told an associate: Joseph Livreriduring a call on November 8, 2021. “They want a cart company tonight to go to the campaign offices to throw out a lot of stuff that they have to throw out because if they do it tonight, there won’t be anyone there. … So I think maybe you can help with that. I know you have a friend, right?”

The mysterious call was played Tuesday in Manhattan Criminal Court by prosecutors who are try to condemn Ulrich for corruption, alleging he received $150,000 in bribes Delivered and other co-defendants in exchange for using his governmental powers as a high-ranking official in the Adams administration to render service to them. Ulrich pleaded not guilty to all charges.
