Cowboys-Eagles crowd explodes in Game 3 of the World Series
There was a time when the mere thought of making the World Series had the NFL hiding under the bed. These days, regular season football is the monster under the World Series futon.
When ESPN announced the numbers for the Week 7 Cowboys-Eagles game (18.8 million), Fox had not yet disclosed the audience for Game 3 of the World Series between (Google search) Tampa Bay and Milwaukee. And for good reason.
Via Manny Soloway Horrible announcementthe baseball game attracted an average of 8.33 million viewers. This made it the fourth least-watched World Series game of all time, behind only Game 3 in 2023, Game 4 in 2023 and Game 3 in 2020.
In the 1970s, the NFL moved Monday Night Football to Thursday, to avoid competing with the World Series. Before 2010, the NFL avoided playing on Sunday nights, to avoid competing with the World Series.
Now, baseball should strive to play World Series games when NFL games are not being played. Which means Tuesday evening, Wednesday evening, Friday evening and Saturday evening.
Until the NFL starts playing Tuesday night and Wednesday night. Which seems inevitable.
