Curry Barker fever will continue into next summer as Focus Features and Blumhouse Atomic Monster launch the Obsession the filmmaker’s next film, Everything but ghosts on May 7.
This is similar to the launch date of Obsession, which lost during the third weekend of May this year (May 15). It opened to $17.1 million domestically, but held up like a rock, hitting an unprecedented 39% in its second weekend ($23.9 million) and another 14% in its third weekend with $27.3 million for a final domestic total of $263.4 million and nearly $520 million worldwide.
As we first told you, Focus has worldwide rights to Everything but ghosts, with Universal Pictures International which handles the studio’s international distribution. Barker co-wrote the film with his longtime creative collaborator and Obsession star Cooper Tomlinson. Everything but ghosts stars Tomlinson and Barker as aspiring “ghostbusters” who find themselves in over their heads as things spiral wildly and horribly out of control. Violet McGraw and Chris Reinacher also star with Bryce Dallas Howard and Aaron Paul. Barker has stated in interviews that the feature film takes place in the same universe as Obsession.

Lionsgate’s Mel Gibson film, which will already open on May 7, will be made The resurrection of Christ (part one) – technically this will take place on May 6 – as well as the Patrick Schwarzenegger-Phoebe Dynevor film from 20th Century Studios Beach Read. Sony launches summer 2027 on April 30 with the long version of the Nintendo video game The Legend of Zelda.
Other production companies on Everything but ghosts are Spooky Pictures, Divide/Conquer, in association with Image Nation and That’s a Bad Idea by Barker and Tomlinson. The EPs are Daniel Bekerman, Barker, Tomlinson and Ben Ross. The producers are Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Jason Blum, Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath.
Focus Acquired Characteristics Obsession on TIFF Midnight Madness 2025 for $15 million. The CAA Media-financed film became the highest-grossing film of all time for Focus, in addition to being the highest-grossing film ever acquired at a film festival (stunning The Blair Witch Project($248.6 million WW gross). Barker’s first feature film, Milk and series, first released on YouTube with nearly 3 million views with a production budget of $800. Obsession was made for $750,000 by Capstone Studios before Focus took the title.
Barker mentioned to Deadline during our DGA TIFF panel that on Everything but ghosts, “The hardest day ever Obsession It was the easiest day Everything but ghosts.”
He added: “We had a 130-page script and we had 26 days to shoot it. I also star in it, I direct it and I’m the main character. I have more lines than anyone else in the movie. Zach Kregger just said to me, ‘You need to cut 30 pages,’ and I probably should have listened to him. My manager did too; he told me that too.
“But I didn’t cut a single page because I wanted to film everything,” added Barker, who was at TIFF for the film’s one-year anniversary. Obsession first. “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and we were compromising shots left and right of the shot list. Gone. Just like cover was going out the windows. It was crazy.”
