Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders File Lawsuit Over My Chemical Romance Over Staged Shooting
My chemical romance The black parade was released 20 years ago today and it’s still a sensation.
When the band performed the album at the Hollywood Bowl on Wednesday, dancers wearing Dallas Cowboys cheerleader-style uniforms came out during “Teenagers” to perform a cheer routine. During the next song, “Disenchanted”, armed soldiers from the fictional Draag regime from the band’s anniversary tour storyline appeared, pointing guns at the band. The cheerleaders opened fire on the authoritarian forces and figures from both sides were gunned down amid the gunfire. Meanwhile, Gerard Way sneaked behind the drums and stabbed “Veronika”, a government employee, to death. (Earlier in the series, he shot the Great Immortal Dictator in the head at his birthday party.)
On Friday, Pro Silver Star Ltd., owner of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders brand, filed for a temporary restraining order and temporary injunction against MCR. The petition included screenshots of social media posts that mistook the dancers for real Cowboys cheerleaders. The company claims that associating its recognizable uniforms with the violent scene could tarnish the cheerleaders’ image and lead the public to believe that the real DCC participated in or approved the performance. The filing also says the company sent a cease and desist letter on Thursday, but MCR refused to comply. The second Bowl show was last night and they did the gunshot skit again.
Here are some excerpts from Night 1:
The whole situation has confused at least one real-life Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, Kylie Dickson. In a TikTok posted Thursday and since made private, the influencer expressed confusion over the “extremely bizarre performance” and clarified, “that’s not us.” She said she wasn’t familiar with My Chem, but speculated that “it’s some kind of political stance” while questioning the legality of the satirical stunt. “I could probably do more research on this,” she added. “I don’t really want to.”
The legal documents were filed the same day the Cheerleaders unionized, but they don’t seem to be related!
