Dave Grohl dedicates “My Hero” to Jack Smith at Power to the People
Dave Grohl dedicated the Foo Fighters’ performance of “My Hero” at the Power to the People Festival to “my new friend Jack.” Although he did not specify Jack’s full name, former Assistant U.S. Attorney and Special Counsel Jack Smith, who was appointed to investigate Donald Trump’s actions after Jan. 6, was seen in the crowd. Additionally, Grohl wore an Iowa Hawkeyes T-shirt, a not-so-subtle reference to Sen. Eric Schmitt’s ill-fated attempt to get Smith to perjure himself in front of Congress earlier this week.
Elsewhere in the Foo Fighters’ set, Grohl recalled his time campaigning for John Kerry, while also paying tribute to his late mother, Virginia: “We traveled from town to town across the Midwest, small towns. And you would show up to these rallies, and there were a couple hundred people, but they needed to be rescued. And I was looking at all these people, and I was going on stage and explaining to everyone, like, ‘Hey man, my mom was a public school teacher for 35 years in Fairfax County. I know what it was like when we were kids. And my mother was an amazing person who always fought the good fight.
“And as we went from town to town to town, town to town to town, I thought, ‘Oh, this is what this is about.’ It’s about coming face to face with the people you’re here to talk to, to talk about the things they need, to talk about how to save them from a situation. And I’m like, that’s what it’s all about: face to face, ‘Hey, let’s talk about it, man.’ Let’s sort this shit out, shall we?’
