A merger means many things. Among the most upsetting are the layoffs, and even though the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. would have started to affect certain fairly high-level cinema executives, two of them are safe: James Gunn and Peter Safran. Deadline reports that they will continue to run DC Studios once the two companies become one, named Skydance, in the coming days.

Gunn has yet to comment on the deal, but he reposted video company owner David Ellison’s post Friday morning about the merger, which certainly makes it seem like he’s on board.

The news follows reports that Gunn’s film division counterparts at Warner Bros., Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, are set to be replaced by Paramount film division chiefs Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg, who will lead production at both studios.

However, focusing on Gunn and Safran, some have speculated that after the disappointing reaction of Supergirlthe pair could be on the chopping block. However, Lanterns was a huge success for HBO and HBO Max, the moderately budgeted horror film clay face is on its way with high expectations, and Gunn is working on his next film, The man of tomorrowwhich will not only bring back the stars of its 2025 hit, Supermanbut also other characters from the DC universe. Things are just getting started for the DC Universe, even though it feels like it’s been a long time in the making.

Gunn and Safran also have several other projects in the works. Matt Reeves The Batman Part II is currently filming. Work continues on the hybrid animation project, Dynamic duo, and the new Superman spin-off show, The People Against Gorilla Groddis also in production. All of this, plus multiple projects in various stages of development, certainly makes it seem like Gunn and Safran are safe at least for a little while. Provided that the projects go as we hope, of course.

We’ll learn more about the geeky fallout from the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger. as it develops. But, for now, are you happy that Gunn and Safran are safe?
