Delaware judge narrows Macron’s defamation case against Candace Owens
A Delaware state judge ruled Tuesday that French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte cannot sue far-right commentator Candace Owens personally for defamation – but they can pursue legal action against the podcaster’s businesses.
The Macrons filed a defamation complaint against Owens in July 2025 after the podcaster falsely claimed in several episodes of her podcast “Candace” that Brigitte is a transgender man who stole the title of first lady.
In their complaint, the Macrons argued that Owens caused “substantial and irreparable damage” to their reputation. Owens had several episodes on her show “Candace”, discussing the conspiracy.
Delaware Superior Court Judge Sheldon Rennie decided this because Owens lives in Tennessee the court has no jurisdiction over her personally. The decision most likely protects Owens’ personal property if a decision was rendered in favor of the Macrons.
