Dennis Haskins’ cause of death revealed after ‘Saved by the Bell’ star dies at 75
The cause of death of “Saved by the Bell” star Dennis Haskins has been revealed.
His death certificate, obtained Tuesday by TMZ, confirms that the actor died of Parkinson’s disease.
Other significant conditions listed on his death certificate include irritable bowel syndrome, depression, hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
The document also confirms that he died at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California.
The actor, best known for playing Principal Richard Belding on the beloved sitcom, died on September 27 at the age of 75.
His death was confirmed by a longtime friend and caretaker and reported by WTVC, a media outlet in his hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
“It’s a tragic loss. Everyone loved Mr. Belding, and those of us who knew Dennis loved him even more. He was a wonderful person and he loved, I mean, he absolutely loved his fans,” the actor’s agent, Jay Schachter, told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement.
“He always had time for them, no matter what. He was my client and dear friend for over 20 years, and I will miss him terribly. I am heartbroken.”
Dimples — a karaoke bar in Burbank, California, where Haskins was a “staple” and considered the place his “second home” — revealed in an Instagram post at the time that Haskins had been quietly battling Parkinson’s disease for eight years.
“He had kept quiet about his battle with Parkinson’s disease, among other health problems, because he didn’t want the attention. He didn’t want to have to tell people. He was like, ‘What am I saying?’ So I respected his wishes and stayed quiet, and helped him along his journey to the next chapter of his life,” read the caption, which was shared alongside photos of Haskins at the facility.
“What a cool and amazing life he had. Rest in peace, Dennis. You were much loved and will never be forgotten.”
Haskins’ ex-wife, Sarah Quinones, later confirmed to TMZ that the actor suffered from Parkinson’s disease before his death, saying he kept his condition a secret, even from those closest to him.
She claimed he stopped responding to her and her friends who told him about his condition while he was staying in an assisted living facility near the end of his life.
Haskins was last seen publicly at a Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio Spurs game on December 29, 2018, where he was photographed smiling in a suit at Crypto.com Arena, then known as Staples Center.
