J. Dennis Hastert, who parlayed his early success as Illinois’ wrestling coach into a long political career but saw his distinction as the longest-serving Republican speaker in the U.S. House of Representatives tarnished a decade after leaving office when it was revealed that he had sexually abused young members of his sports team, has died. He was 84 years old.
