Digger review: Tom Cruise takes ‘biggest risk of his career’ in this ‘love it or hate it’ madness ★★★★☆

The first difference from Cruise’s recent work is that his character, Digger Rockwell, is not an athletic, ageless, mischievous but noble hero. With a mountain of prosthetic makeup and someone listed in the end credits as “T Cruise’s hairstylist,” the actor transformed himself into a bald, graying, paunchy Texas oil baron. And we see how paunchy he is when he’s shown in his underwear in a cheeky homage to one of Cruise’s groundbreaking films, Risky Business.
