Chiefs safety Alohi Gilman tackled Achane by the mask and twisted him awkwardly to the ground. Gilman was not penalized on a play that could have ended Achane’s season.
The Dolphins ruled out Achane with a knee injury, and coach Jeff Hafley said after the game that it appears Achane is seriously injured.
“I’m still gathering information and hopefully I’ll have more information for you,” Hafley said. “To be very honest with you, it doesn’t seem very optimistic at the moment. But I can’t give you any further details until I have them.”
Achane will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the initial diagnosis, whatever it may be.
He had three carries for 17 yards that day.
