Driver arrested after pedestrian dies in San Francisco
A man died after being struck by a vehicle early Sunday in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, and police arrested the driver after tracing the vehicle to Treasure Island, authorities said.
San Francisco police responded around 1:06 a.m. to the 800 block of Ellis Street in response to a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian, officials said.
Police found an injured man and gave him aid before he was taken to hospital where his life is in danger.
He later died at the hospital, police said.
The vehicle and its driver had left the scene before the police arrived. Investigators traced the vehicle to Treasure Island, where California Highway Patrol officers had stopped it for an unrelated traffic violation, police said.
SFPD officers notified the CHP of the fatal collision and developed probable cause to arrest the adult female driver. She was taken to the San Francisco County Jail and booked on suspicion of homicide.
Police have not released the identity of the driver, citing the ongoing investigation. The vehicle was towed and is being searched for evidence.
