Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts likely out for season after blood clots discovered in lung, leg
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and leg, the team announced Monday, likely sidelining the Super Bowl MVP for the remainder of 2026.
Hurts last played Oct. 11 in the Eagles’ 19-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, before being carted off the field in Sunday’s 25-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Hurts was initially diagnosed with “deep vein thrombosis” in his left calf, the team said.
“After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary embolism,” the statement continued. “He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations.”
He is being treated with blood thinners and “during this time he will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities, including football,” according to the Eagles.
The team has not set a specific timetable for his return, although action for 2026 seems very unlikely.
“We anticipate that it will have no long-term effects,” the club said.
Hurts was MVP of Super Bowl 59, leading his team to a 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on February 9, 2025, in New Orleans.
