
Eddie Murphy launches into scripted television with ‘The Chairman’ at Peacock
Eddie Murphy returns to the small screen for his first scripted series.
THE Beverly Hills Cop And Coming to America star, who debuted Saturday evening livewill play in The presidenta drama series of Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner which is in the works at Peacock.
Murphy has appeared in around forty films since 48 hours but never headlined a scripted series, although he created two shows at the time: the animated comedy Pajamas for Fox and The Royal Family for CBS, both in the 1990s.
Details of the new series have not been disclosed, but it is written and executive produced by Weiner, who has not returned to a series since. The Romanoffs for Amazon in 2018.
The president comes from Yellow stone producer 101 Studios and Universal Television. This is the first project from 101 Studios, which is also behind series such as Landman And MobLandand longtime collaborator Chris McCarthy since inking deals with NBCUniversal last year, which coincided with Taylor Sheridan also closing her deal. The deal for the David Glasser-led company began in January this year.
Murphy and Weiner, who also wrote and directed the HBO production The Sopranoswill also execute production.
Murphy returns from Netflix documentary Being Eddiedirected by Angus Wall and released last year. His last two films were The pick-upreleased last year via Amazon, and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. His next film is Shrek 5which should be released next year.
