Shivon Zilis, Elon Musk’s longtime partner and mother of four of his children, announced their separation in a lengthy post on X.
Zilis, who previously worked at Musk’s automaker Tesla and now works at his tech company Neuralink, is the mother of four of the billionaire’s 14 known children. The couple’s romance dates back to 2016, although details of their relationship have been kept under wraps.
“It’s hard to go from loving to letting go in a week without warning, but that’s how it is sometimes,” Zilis began.
“I’m glad I was able to show Elon what it feels like to be deeply understood, nurtured, and loved peacefully with stability and gentleness. Given the tumultuous nature of his childhood, his often tortured soul, and the way he fights for humanity, I wanted him to feel the deepest, most stable form of love this world has to offer. My heart is filled knowing that I was able to do this, and I hope it leaves a lasting good effect.
“We have always been his safe space,” she continued. “A place where we were all delighted to see him and which was always full of happiness and love, not war, unlike his otherwise militant existence (a necessary break from the battlefield where he could recharge his heart and soul before heading out again).
“I loved being that counterbalance of safety, calm and love – and I’m excited to put a smile on his face when he was down. I will miss him dearly.”
Zilis added that there is “a lot of loss, but luckily we created four beautiful little loves of my life,” referring to their children. The couple welcomed twins in 2021, a third child in 2024 and a fourth in 2025.
“I hope and pray that he and I can be good friends and co-parents,” she continued. “I’m hurting, but I care deeply about E and will always encourage his happiness. God willing, Elon, the world is lucky to have you.”
The Independent has contacted Musk for comment.
Musk and Zilis largely kept details of their romance under wraps until earlier this year, when Zilis revealed during the OpenAI trial that sometime after joining the tech company in 2016, she had a “unique” relationship with Musk.
The court heard how Musk “offered to donate” as part of a “platonic sperm donor” arrangement after Zilis decided she wanted to become a single mother – an arrangement which later developed into a romantic partnership.

Musk has 14 known children with four different women, according to People. He hasn’t spoken about the breakup yet.
Alongside her lengthy note, Zilis shared a text message exchange between her and Musk from late September.
“It was really wonderful to see you at breakfast. I love you very much,” Zilis texted Musk, according to the screenshot.
Musk responded on September 24: “I love you too. »
He went on to say that he didn’t realize he could have invited her to a dinner hosted at the White House last week for Chinese President Xi Jinping, or he would have done so.
“Oh this means so much to me. Thank you,” Zilis responded with a heart emoji.
