Eric Dane lists all the drugs he tried during ‘dark times’ in posthumous memoir
Eric Dane detailed the drug addiction he struggled with during his 20s in his posthumous memoir, “My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments.”
“I call it my dark period. I auditioned for a few roles, got cast in some, but mostly I did drugs,” the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum wrote in an excerpt obtained by People.
“I got high, I got high, I got drunk, I shot up, I got freebased, I did every drug imaginable,” he shared before rattling off the staggering list of drugs he tried.
“Here’s a partial list: alcohol, pot, acid. Heroin. Cocaine. Mushrooms. Mescaline. Crystal meth. Crack. Painkillers. Handfuls of painkillers. Buckets of painkillers. Vicodin, Percocet, OxyContin, you name it, everything on the market,” Dane wrote.
“All the benzos. Xanax. Valium. All the muscle relaxers. All the tops. Adderall. Ritalin,” he added.
“I don’t think there’s a medicine I haven’t tried.”
Elsewhere in the book, Dane recalls the time his youngest daughter, Georgia, 14, saved him from drowning during a family vacation to Antigua after his diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2025.
The “Last Ship” alum said he lost his ability to swim in water.
Dane died on February 19, less than a year after announcing his ALS diagnosis. He was 53 years old.
According to his death certificate, the Euphoria actor died of respiratory failure.
Additionally, the underlying cause of his death was the result of ALS, a progressive disease of the nervous system that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Dane is survived by his two daughters, Billie, 16, and Georgia, whom he shares with his wife Rebecca Gayheart.
Dane’s posthumous memoir, “My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments,” is due out November 3.
