ESPN says it’s trying to fix a Jason Kelce broadcasting habit that’s driving football fans crazy
For Jason Kelce, old habits die hard. And for fans outside of Philly, they’re getting old.
A few weeks ago, On “Monday Night Football,” Kelce referred to the Philadelphia Eagles as “us” during halftime of their Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears and ESPN said that needs to change.
“We tried to get the ‘we’ out of him,” longtime ESPN producer Jeff Dufine told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Dufine noted that using “we” is a common mistake former athletes and coaches make when talking about their former teams.
“We played really well offensively, we had chances, we shot ourselves in the foot but we moved the ball, we passed the ball well,” Kelce said on the Sept. 28 broadcast.
Pat McAfee didn’t let Kelce’s comments slide, saying, “A lot of ‘we’ talk about Jason for Philly.”
Kelce, who played for the Eagles for 13 seasons, later apologized for his mistake. The 38-year-old announced the Eagles-Jaguars match in London on Sunday. Responding to his previous “we” comments, he assured Jaguars fans that he would do his best to remain neutral during the game.
“I want to assure Jags fans that I’ve already seen a lot of Jags accounts saying they’re not looking forward to this,” Kelce said on “New Heights.” “I’ll do everything I can to give you the credit you deserve. Jacksonville is playing as well as any team in the AFC right now. I really believe in that.”

Social media users weren’t thrilled with Kelce’s performance on the stand Sunday, highlighting the former Eagles star’s perceived bias. At one point in the game, when the Eagles turned the ball over to Jacksonville, Kelce said “we” turned the ball over.
“Here’s an idea. Keep him away from Eagles games,” one user wrote on X.
Another was a little harsher, asking, “Did they try to get Jason Kelce out of the booth?”
“I felt like I was watching an Eagles preseason game,” another fan posted on X.
“ESPN should get (Jason Kelce) out of the broadcast booth for good,” one X user wrote.

Dufine, on the other hand, praised Kelce before announcing the Eagles-Jaguars on Sunday.
“He sees the game very well,” Dufine said. “Just tell me what you see and we will support you in the best way possible throughout the game.”
Kelce’s next assignment will be announcing the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints on October 25 in France.
