Anthropic’s (ANTH.PVT) long-awaited stock market debut could happen in just a few weeks.

The artificial intelligence startup has publicly filed its S-1 documents for its IPO – the prospectus that a company must file with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) before selling shares to the public. That set off a countdown that could end with one of the biggest IPOs in history.

The company has not announced a date for its first day of trading, but it aims to debut as early as the week of November 16, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal and Reuters.

Before Anthropic shares can begin trading, Anthropic executives and its underwriters must conduct an investor roadshow, set a price and receive the final green light from regulators.

FAQs

When could the roadshow start?

Under SEC rules, Anthropic could begin trading no earlier than Monday, November 16, according to Yahoo Finance calculations. Based on the timeline set by SpaceX (SPCX) in June, which went from public filing to first transaction in 23 days, Anthropic would debut on Wednesday, November 18.

A timeline comparing SpaceX's IPO with two possible paths for Anthropic. SpaceX filed a public filing on May 20 and began trading on June 12. Under the fastest path allowed by SEC rules, Anthropic would begin trading on November 16. At SpaceX's pace, this would begin on November 18, both before Thanksgiving on November 26.

Companies that let the SEC privately review a draft of their IPO documents are required to wait at least 15 calendar days after making it public before beginning their official roadshow — the meetings in which bankers pitch stocks to big investors and take orders. Since Anthropic made its file public on October 26, its presentation tour can begin as early as November 10.

After that, the quickest way leads to vacation. The SEC is closed for Veterans Day on November 11, and its rules require two business days’ notice before the agency declares an effective filing. That makes Friday, Nov. 13, the first day Anthropic could set its price — a day bankers rarely use, since the stock wouldn’t begin trading until Monday, leaving buyers to wait until the weekend.

SpaceX started its roadshow on the first possible day and priced its shares a week later.

When will Anthropic set its IPO price?

The Claude maker has not yet disclosed the number of shares it plans to sell or the price range of its offer.

These details generally appear in an updated file before the start of the roadshow. The final price is usually set after investors indicate their demand, the day before the shares begin trading.

What could change the schedule?

Many factors. Market volatility, particularly in comparable stocks already traded, and any outstanding regulatory matters could change the schedule. The company also did not say how long its roadshow would last.

With the U.S. midterm elections on November 3 and Thanksgiving on November 26, Anthropic and its bankers have a narrow window. According to SpaceX’s schedule, they would have about a week left.

Should you buy Anthropic stock on day one?

History says patience pays. Of more than 9,000 IPOs between 1975 and 2021, 60% were flat or lower three years after the first day’s closing price, according to data from University of Florida professor Jay Ritter that Yahoo Finance analyzed before SpaceX’s debut.

Anthropic could benefit from the same boost SpaceX got from index funds being forced to buy the stock. But that purchase may have come at a price for SpaceX, which fell 15% in its first week on the Nasdaq-100.

Who will make money from the IPO?

Early investors and institutions backing Anthropic could be in for a significant windfall. Anthropic’s S-1 filing showed that two of Anthropic’s biggest backers — Amazon (AMZN) and Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) — would likely be winners.

Anthropic’s backers, including Spark Capital, Menlo Ventures, Coatue Management and Lightspeed Venture Partners, as well as funds managed by Fidelity and Blackstone, could also benefit.

Some shareholders have already converted part of their stakes into cash before the IPO. In April, Anthropic facilitated a tender offer in which shareholders, including CEO Dario Amodei, Chairman Daniela Amodei and other executives, sold approximately $4.66 billion in shares.

What information did the S-1 filing reveal about Anthropic?

Anthropic’s public prospectus revealed some key details about the AI company’s finances. For example, Anthropic revealed that its revenue increased 1,206% to $33.2 billion in the first nine months of the year ended September 30. Operating losses also improved year-over-year to -$1.3 billion in the first nine months of 2026, compared to -$5.2 billion in the same period in 2025.

He also highlighted commitments to spend a whopping $895.4 billion, which will be primarily spent on computing and infrastructure. Of this total amount, $69.8 billion will be due over the next 12 months.

Anthropic reiterated a series of risk factors that threaten its business, including a narrow customer base and runaway artificial intelligence that could pose “existential risks to humanity.”
