Exclusive Fitbit Edge images show Google’s replacement for the Fitbit Charge
There has been talk of Google launching another Fitbit device this year, similar to the Fitbit Air but with a screen. We now have exclusive product images of this new device, called “Fitbit Edge”.
Google already leaked this device during the launch of the Pixel 11 series in August. Many people saw it in their promotional images and wondered what this device could be. It looked somewhat similar to the Pixel Watch 5, but with an oval screen instead of a round one. It looks like it could be a good compromise between the Fitbit Air and the Google Pixel Watch 5.
This could be the spiritual successor to the Fitbit Charge line
Google hasn’t released a new Fitbit Charge since 2023, and many wondered if it was dead. Well, maybe it is. To be replaced by the Fitbit Edge. This device appears to have many of the same features as the Charge models: a fitness band with a small screen, up to 7 days of battery life, and access to a small set of apps like Google Maps, YouTube Music, and Find My Phone.
With the Fitbit Edge, you can still receive notifications, similar to those on the Fitbit Charge and some of Fitbit’s older devices, but they won’t be as useful as the Pixel Watch.
The Fitbit Edge will have precise and reliable GPS, altitude tracking via its altimeter and automatic activity recognition. All features we’ve already seen on the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5. This makes it a great fitness tracker for those who want to track their fitness without getting a ton of notifications on the wrist like a smartwatch would offer.

Fitbit Edge will launch in a host of colors to match the Pixel
Google will also release the Fitbit Edge in a few different colors. We have three colors: black, green and orange, which seem to match Google’s Obsidian, Olive and Canyon colors of the Pixel 11 Pro series. More colors may come in the future, especially with different strap colors being sold.
The green or olive color has a rather discreet frame around the tracker. It’s two-tone, like the orange option, although the orange or canyon has a brighter gold frame. Notably, there doesn’t appear to be a Stephen Curry edition this time around, although I wouldn’t rule one out. Google has already released a special Stephen Curry edition of the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5 this year.
An elongated button sits on either side of the tracker, with an array of sensors on the back. It doesn’t appear to have the same sensor array as the Pixel Watch 5; it’s more like the Fitbit Air, with potentially more sensors to track more metrics.
It also has pinch mechanisms on the back for swapping the strap. It’s different from the Pixel Watch, which makes sense since it’s a different shape.
How does the Fitbit Edge compare to the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5?
Google is positioning the Fitbit Edge as a solid middle option in its wearable product line. The Fitbit Air is the cheapest model, with no screen or distractions, while the Pixel Watch 5 is more of a “phone on the wrist” option. The Fitbit Edge sits right in the middle.
Compared to the Fitbit Air, the Fitbit Edge also supports notifications, as well as limited apps like Google Maps, YouTube Music, and Find My Phone. It also benefits from the same battery life as the Fitbit Air, an advantage over the Pixel Watch 5.
Like the Fitbit Air, the Fitbit Edge also works with Android and iOS. That’s a huge advantage over the Google Pixel Watch 5, which runs Wear OS and only runs on Android.

When will the Fitbit Edge be available for purchase?
The Fitbit Edge should be available very soon; we expect it to launch this month. Down the road, Google really risks this device not being on store shelves during the busy holiday shopping period.
As for the price, it’s quite difficult to guess. Previous Fitbit Charge models cost between $129 and $179, and with the Fitbit Air already at $99, I’d expect the Fitbit Edge to cost between $149 and maybe $199. It really depends on how aggressive Google is with this tracker.
