Falcons logo won’t feature stripes from viral social media post
The Atlanta Falcons will take the field Sunday with a retro logo on their helmets — but not the design that went viral.
As part of their retro uniforms, the Falcons will bring back a black hawk logo that the team used for more than four decades, starting in the 1960s.

To promote the throwbacks, Atlanta released a social media post showing the design, captioning it as the team’s new profile picture. The message incorporated the retro logo with a red background with black, gold and cream stripes, which mimics the stripes on the team’s retro helmets.
But netizens were quick to point out how the color combination and black logo were reminiscent of the Nazi flag, leading to satirical jokes.
The post is still available on the Falcons’ social media channels, but is no longer the team’s profile photo; this change appears to have taken place on Thursday, after initial backlash on social media. The new profile photo shows a helmet with the retro logo, but without the stripes.

The Falcons declined to comment on the issue to ESPN and the NFL did not respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.
Atlanta will wear the throwback logos as they host the San Francisco 49ers for Week 7.
