‘Fast & Furious’ TV Adaptation Ordered to Series by Peacock for 2028

The “Fast & Furious” TV series, whose development was first revealed earlier this year during NBCUniversal’s preparations, is closer to reality. Peacock announced Thursday that it has given the green light to a new scripted television series based on the franchise.

Vin Diesel, who revealed a “Fast & Furious” scripted series was in development during the upfront presentation in May, is executive producing alongside One Race’s Sam Vincent (One Race), Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty, and Chris Morgan Productions’ Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan.

Mike Daniels (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Shades of Blue,” “The Rockford Files”) and Wolfe Coleman (“Shades of Blue,” “911: Lone Star”) will serve as co-showrunners, pilot writers and executive producers.

According to Peacock, the streamer plans to premiere the “Fast & Furious” series by 2028.

The premiere would coincide with the film’s next installment, “Fast Forever,” which is scheduled to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.

Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.

“Over the last decade, we realized that fans wanted more,” Diesel said early on in May. “They wanted us to expand on the legacy characters, their stories. And over the last decade, the desire has been for us to move into the television space that Fallon had mastered. And I had to wait until it was right… It became right when Donna Langley started overseeing everything, because that’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, the thing that makes us all feel like family, would be protected in the television space… The news I have here today is that Peacock is launching four shows from the “Fast and the Furious” series.

Previously on television, Netflix aired the animated series “Fast & Furious Spy Racers” for six seasons between 2019 and 2021.

In case you’re one of the few who don’t know what the “Fast & Furious” franchise is, here’s NBCU’s explanation: “This year marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of one of the most iconic film franchises in cinematic history. On June 22, 2001, Universal Pictures released “The Fast and the Furious,” a high-octane thriller set amid the street racing culture of Los Angeles. The film – starring Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto, Paul Walker as Brian O’Conner, Jordana Brewster as Mia and Michelle Rodriguez as Letty – would spark a cultural phenomenon.
