FDA announces nationwide cheese recall – products linked to E. coli in several states
Some raw milk cheeses have been recalled nationwide after being linked to an illness outbreak in several states. E.colithe Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Friday.
Sierra Nevada Graziers voluntarily recalled four types of raw milk cheese – medium cheddar, sharp cheddar, jalapeño jack and Monterey jack – after learning that nine of the 13 people involved in the outbreak had eaten the cheese before becoming ill. No deaths have been reported in connection with the outbreak, but eight people were hospitalized and three developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious complication of E.coli this can lead to kidney failure.

The recalled cheese was sold nationwide, but cases of E.coli have only been reported in nine states: California, Colorado, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Tennessee and Utah.
The last illness to appear in the outbreak was on August 26, 2026.
The FDA is urging consumers to check their refrigerators and freezers for the recalled cheese. If you have one of the recalled products, throw it away or return it.
If you think you have eaten contaminated cheese, watch for symptoms of E.coliincluding severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea and vomiting.

The FDA also recommends against consuming raw milk products. Instead, use pasteurized milk, which has been heated to kill harmful bacteria, including E.coli—while retaining the beneficial nutrients of milk.
