Nearly 4,000 bottles of blood pressure medications have been recalled nationwide, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The prescription drugs – a generic version of Tribenzor – were initially recalled on October 7 due to a “dissolution specification failure,” which may impact their effectiveness. On October 26, the FDA assigned the recall the second highest risk level in terms of the possibility of temporary or reversible effects.

The recalled drug, produced by Macleods Pharma USA, Inc., can be identified as follows:

  • Description: Olmesartan medoxomil, amlodipine and hydrochlorothiazide tablets 40 mg/10 mg/12.5 mg
  • Size: Bottle of 30 units
    • CDN: 33342-246-07
    • Batch number: 12251163A
    • Expiry date: May 31, 2027
    • Quantity concerned: 3,528 bottles
  • Size: Bottle of 90 pieces
    • CDN: 33342-246-10
    • Batch number: 12251163B
    • Expiry date: May 31, 2027
    • Quantity concerned: 216 bottles

If your bottle is part of the recall, contact your doctor or pharmacist for the best course of action. If you do not see the lot number on your bottle, contact your pharmacy to see if it is from a recalled lot.

Class 2 recalls pose health risks, but stopping a drug suddenly can be riskier, Jennifer Young, PharmD, BCPS, CSP, senior drug safety specialist at the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, previously said..

“While reminder notifications can be frightening, it’s important to contact your doctor immediately for advice before changing your medication routine,” she said.
