FDA Recalls 122,000 Gatorade Cases Due to Undeclared Colors
NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — More than 122,000 cases of Gatorade were recalled in 37 states after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified the action as a Class II recall involving undeclared food colors.
The recall involves 122,021 cases of 28-ounce bottles of Gatorade Lemon Lime, Gatorade Lemon Lime Zero, Gatorade Orange and Gatorade Orange Zero, according to the FDA. The products have been recalled because they contain undeclared Yellow No. 5 and/or Yellow No. 6.
The recall was voluntarily initiated by PepsiCo on September 25 and was closed by the FDA on October 2. The action is still ongoing.
Affected products were distributed to 37 states, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, North Carolina and California.
The FDA has assigned the recall a Class II designation, meaning that use or exposure to the product may result in temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or the likelihood of serious health consequences is low.
No press release has been issued regarding the recall, according to the FDA enforcement report. Consumers can identify affected products by checking the lot numbers listed in the recall notice.
