Florida counties declare state of emergency over ‘extremely unusual’ dengue outbreak

Three Florida counties have declared a state of emergency as a growing outbreak of dengue fever has infected hundreds of people across the state this year.

Hillsborough and Pinellas counties declared states of emergency Thursday, a day after neighboring Pasco County did the same, as authorities in the state’s west-central region step up efforts to control mosquito populations and curb the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
