The co-pilot who attempted to hijack a flight to Israel on Wednesday used a hatchet in the cockpit to attack the plane’s captain, United Arab Emirates officials said Saturday.
Prosecutor General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi called the attack on the pilot an attempt to “take control of the plane” and commit a “terrorist act,” according to a statement published by the official Emirates News Agency.
