Mother of 4 daughters, all on harrowing FlyDubai flight, recalls trauma and miracles
An Israeli mother and her two children described the traumatic experience of witnessing blood and screaming during the attempted hijacking of FlyDubai Flight 1073 on Wednesday in an interview with Fox News’ Harris Faulkner on Thursday.
“What can I say, it was a horrible situation, it felt like it was forever,” recalls Lital Shahar.
Lital, who was interviewed alongside her daughter Hila, 14, and daughter Eliya, 11, explained that she had the two girls and their two other sisters, aged 7 and 5, on the flight.
Lital said they were “really traumatized by what happened.”
“I had a lot of fear because I didn’t really understand what was going on,” Eliya, 11, told Faulkner. “I was going through a lot of thoughts of hope, of going home and another thought of ‘I don’t want to die.’
“There was a lot of screaming, a lot of blood, a lot of things that made me wish I didn’t get on the plane,” Eliya added.
Lital described the exact moment she discovered something was wrong.
“Suddenly there was a woman who came out of business class and started screaming. There was a lot of blood. ‘He stabbed him, he stabbed him!'” Lital said.
“The Israeli men, the heroes who were on the plane, took action,” she continued. “Yaniv, the one everyone is talking about now, was sitting behind me and he was so fast I didn’t even see him.
“I just saw him come back after it was all over, full of blood on his clothes. And the other men were in the front rows so I didn’t see them too. They were truly heroic. And Captain Smith was able, in his last powers, to open the cockpit door which saved us all. We are very grateful to him as well,” Lital added.
The mother of four said the situation was not just a miracle, but the culmination of multiple miracles.
“At that moment we realized, I realized, that we were in the hands of God, and that he is the only one who can save us now. And certainly the miracles that were on that plane…miracles. It was a miracle within a miracle,” Lital said.
“What we had there was like a biblical scene. The best writers in Hollywood wouldn’t be able to write such a script…We have to thank God for his goodness and his kindness and his mercy,” she told Faulkner.
