Former UFC Security Officer Reacts to Dana White’s Admitted Bias Ahead of DWCS Fight: ‘It’s Completely Blocked’
For Sal Everett, he treats his fight on the Contender Series like any other. But there’s a lot of intrigue at play.
Everett, a former UFC security guard, is scheduled to face Ozzy Martin on Tuesday night at Meta APEX in Las Vegas. UFC CEO Dana White, as he did with Bella Mir before her DWCS contest, admits he’ll have a hard time being impartial about where his heart lies when Everett competes on Tuesday.
When asked about White’s positive comments, Everett responded similarly.
“Yeah, it’s completely blocked,” Everett told MMA Fighting. “I think it helps him work for him and, over the years, feel comfortable with him.
“Before, I was nervous around him and I would sweat when I talked to him a little bit. But yeah, I feel like over the years I just understand him as a person and he’s human, and yeah, Dana is no different than any of us. And yeah, his love is reciprocated for me too because he’s been a really good boss and a good friend.”
Everett is 4-0 as a pro, with all first-round results competing for Tuff-N-Uff, and even has a four-second knockout on his resume.
The 29-year-old recently ended his employment with the UFC instead of pursuing this next chapter of competition as an athlete for the promotion’s welterweight division.
Having seen a different side of White that most don’t have access to, Everett said he learned a lot from his old — and perhaps soon new — boss.
“I mean, I feel like he’s a complete scammer,” Everett said. “That’s one thing that he did to me, showed me, motivated me, because as far as being that powerful and as a man, he busts his ass every day and shows up for work in front of a lot of people that I see. So, yeah, I feel like Dana is exactly what you see, exactly who he is. He doesn’t hide anything, doesn’t pretend anything.”
Martin, also 4-0, is a 24-year-old prospect from New Hampshire who has been making waves in the Cage Titans promotion. “Toro” has also finished all of his professional MMA oppositions, including a 30-second knockout victory in his last fight at Cage Titans 77 in July.
Everett is ready to face another exciting fight finisher, and when asked for a prediction, and hopes of White telling him later in the evening, “Get your ass over here, kid,” the second-generation professional fighter was excited.
“By any means necessary, I will get this contract,” Everett explained. “Hell, yeah, that would be the best promotion I’ve ever had in my entire life. I need it. That’s what’s happening.”
