Free Metro Redux update coming to PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

Metro Redux, the two-part remaster of Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light, is getting a free graphical overhaul for current-gen consoles and PC as the series hits the 50 million lifetime sales milestone.
That means native versions of the game for PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, as well as a significant update to the PC version. However, it is not a remaster or remake, with the developers saying that “the original experience and aesthetic of Metro Redux has been preserved.”
The main addition here is that Metro Redux owners on PS5 Pro can play the game with PSSR support, while Xbox Series X owners benefit from TSR upscaling – both of which should significantly improve image quality. Xbox Series consoles generally also benefit from spatial audio support, which was previously lacking.
The PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series (It’s unclear what the Xbox Series S will offer; I’d say sub-4K output at 120fps is more likely.) Graphics settings have also been tweaked, with higher quality lighting, shadows, and particles. Current generation proprietary controllers are also better managed after the update thanks to support for adaptive triggers and pulse triggers on the affected platforms.
On PC, DLSS upscaling has been added along with support for spatial audio. The update also includes “quality of life improvements to community bug fixes and frequently requested improvements.”
Full patch notes should be confirmed at launch, and it will be fascinating to see exactly how each platform compares in terms of features and improvements. For example, Sony’s recently revealed QSSR for the base PS5 seems like a good shout?
The update will be released on October 22 for PC and a week later on October 29 for console players. It’s free for all Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux owners in the Steam, Epic, Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series stores. The Metro Redux pack itself is available online for under £5 (or free in PS+’s Extra and Premium tiers), so I recommend checking them out if you haven’t played these flagship games.
Deep Silver’s next game, Metro 2039, is scheduled for release on February 4, 2027. We’ve already tested the PC version of the game, which is shaping up brilliantly.
