It’s safe to say that Gail Lerner’s honeymoon period with NBC is over. Lerner was fired from her own NBC sitcom, Newlywedsbefore its premiere.

In an Instagram post, Lerner says the reason he was given was “creative differences.” An NBC spokesperson confirmed this was the case.

Lerner called Newlywedsscheduled to premiere on October 23, “the most joyful television experience of my life.” Newlyweds stars a real married couple, Tim Daly and Téa Leoni. Daly and Leoni have been together for over a decade after meeting on the 2014-2019 CBS drama Madam Secretary.

“Hey guys, here’s the good news: I couldn’t be more proud of the new sitcom Newlyweds that I created with the singular Jamie Lee Curtis. Premieres on 10/23! » Lerner posted on his Instagram on Friday. “Here’s the bad news: I got fired today. The reason I was given was “creative differences”.

Lerner and Curtis co-created the series Newlywedswhich centers on a free-spirited woman (Leoni) and a buttoned-up professor (Daly) who marry after a whirlwind courtship.

“The troubled part: I’m so sad to be separated from the most joyful television experience of my life. The cast, crew and writers are unparalleled,” her caption continues. “The positive side: the first six episodes were made under my direction and I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Lerner has a pretty good attitude about the whole thing.

“No one knows what’s going to happen in our meshhuganah business, but I predict this show is going to be a real barn burner,” she wrote. “Please check out the first six (and beyond!). If you like them, let me know! If you don’t like them, keep it to yourself.”

Lerner is a seasoned producer. His credits include Blackish and its fallout Mixedas well as Will and Grace, Happy endings And Ugly Betty.

“Sending all my love and hopes for a long, happy run to everyone who gave their talents and open hearts to make this happen. As my dear friend @courtneyaltonlilly told me, it’s better to die on your feet than to live on your knees,” Lerner’s post read. It was signed: “The love of your friend on your feet.”

Universal Television produces Newlyweds.
