For your general AI queries, Gemini 4 Argon will be deployed today in the Gemini app. However, it will only be available to those on the AI Pro ($20/month) and AI Ultra (starting at $99/month) plans. This isn’t a shock, since Google also recently restricted access to Flash templates to free users, leaving them only with Flash-Lite.
That’s not all: there are additional restrictions on Argon for coding-focused products. In Antigravity and AI Studio, the new model will only be available to those on the AI Ultra plans. Code generation has become even more important at the frontier of AI development since the latest version of Google’s Pro model, but it can consume a lot of computing cycles.
You can generate code with Argon in the Gemini app’s Canvas mode even if you’re a Pro subscriber, but multithreaded agentic workflows in Antigravity are probably too expensive. If you need something better than Flash models, Google says it’s keeping Gemini 3.1 Pro for now. Google declined to say when (or if) Argon will come to Antigravity for other subscription tiers.
For developers accessing Google’s models through the paid API, the company will happily sell you Argon tokens. Pricing is temporarily set at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with a 95% discount for cached tokens. This deal is only valid until November 30, when the rate will increase to $4 for 1 million input tokens and $20 for 1 million output tokens. Developers will need to take this into account before building workflows around Google’s new model.
