GIANT grocery stores remain affected by digital shutdown days after problem began | Allentown area
SALISBURY TWP., Pa. — A cyberattack continues to impact Pennsylvania’s largest supermarket chain and its shoppers as they face a digital shutdown.
GIANT’s website and app have been offline for several days.
“It’s a little frustrating, but it happens, I guess,” said buyer Rob Reitenauer.
“I usually do my shopping curbside because it’s easier with a toddler, and unfortunately I wasn’t able to do that,” he added.
On Friday, he had no choice but to go into the store to do his shopping, which normally isn’t a problem, but his four-year-old daughter is sick.
“She’s home sick with a fever right now, and I need to go get some stuff, but unfortunately I can’t go curbside right now because the app is down,” Reitenauer explained.
On Monday, GIANT parent company Ahold Delhaize said in an online statement that there had been a cybersecurity incident and that teams were taking steps to assess and contain the problem, including taking some systems offline.
GIANT stores in the region remain open. Updates on the incident will be provided as they become available.
Reitenauer hopes they will be back soon. Her four-year-old son, on the other hand, had a blast.
“It’s fun for her because she can choose things she doesn’t normally choose, like donuts, match cars and balloons,” Reitenauer concluded.
