The extent of the moves the Giants took Tuesday made their point clear. They could no longer justify giving veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. a roster spot.
Beckham left and receivers Braxton Berrios and Charlie Jones joined the 53-man roster. It’s simple; Berrios and Jones play on special teams. Not Beckham.
And it’s not just a shuffle between the roster and the practice squad. Via ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the Giants are not expected to sign Beckham to the practice squad “right now.”
The Beckham reunion provided the Giants with a feel-good story, which fans embraced. Since then, reality has set in. With starting quarterback Jaxson Dart lost to a knee injury, the Giants need to get the most out of every player on the team. Beckham wasn’t doing enough. It was time for him to leave.
It remains to be seen whether he will land elsewhere. Other teams, like the Rams and 49ers, have needs. Further injuries are inevitable.
Last year, Beckham didn’t play at all. Whether this will be the case for the remainder of 2026 remains to be seen.
