
Glen Powell explains why he doesn’t talk about politics and why ‘Running Man’ failed
Glen Powell explains why he is reluctant to speak publicly about politics, even though his mother worked in the Reagan administration at the U.S. Treasury Department.
“As time went on, I realized that politics divided people,” Powell said. Squire. “People trying to prove their point, to me, that’s the worst version of a conversation. I really don’t like that talk. It’s not as healthy as it used to be.”
He continued: “(Engaging in politics) is not possible right now. I applaud people who engage in these activities and fight for what they believe in. If I were a political person, I would speak out about it. For me, my calling is elsewhere.”
Powell noted that growing up, politics were never discussed at the dinner table despite her mother’s job.
In the same interview, the actor also explained why The running man failed after starring in a string of hits, including Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone but youAnd Twists.
“They abandoned an entire marketing department a month before our movie came out in the middle of a meltdown,” Powell said, referring to Paramount’s October 2025 layoffs.
The running man made less than $70 million on a reported budget of $110 million. Powell would next star in the A24 thriller How to make a murderwhich also underperformed at $21 million worldwide.
“There were a lot of problems with that,” Powell said. “There just wasn’t enough time to do it properly. I look back on that one as an example of, ‘You know what, there’s no rush.’
