Glenn Close revealed she walks with a cane because she recently had a hip replacement.

“I just wanted to jump on board and thank you for all your love and explain why I have a cane,” the “101 Dalmatians” actress said in an Instagram video Tuesday.

“I have a cane because I had a complete hip replacement,” she added.

Glenn Close (seen above in an Instagram video) revealed she uses a cane after undergoing hip replacement surgery.
The Oscar nominee said she had surgery after “discovering that (her) left hip was in very bad shape.”

Close, 79, said she had the operation after “discovering that (her) left hip was in very poor condition”.

“All I’m doing right now is staying in shape so that I can really throw myself into whatever challenges come my way,” the three-time Emmy Award winner continued.

Close assured her fans that the use of the cane would be temporary. She also said she will be in London for the premiere of “Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” next week and in New York for the second season premiere of “All’s Fair.”

Close said the use of the cane was temporary and she would do well with it for future red carpet appearances.

“So I hope to be fully present there, and maybe not running up the mountains, but at least my old self,” she said.

“So, I love everyone. Don’t worry. I feel great. I have my wonderful, wonderful family around me and I’m looking forward to all the adventures ahead, so I love everyone,” the “Fatal Attraction” star concluded.

In the caption, Close said her video was “a necessary explanation” and she thanked her doctor at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery for her “new hip.”

In the clip, the actress wore a frownie, a facial patch that smoothes wrinkles, on her forehead.

Earlier this month, the Oscar nominee was photographed using a cane while walking the red carpet at the New York premiere of “La Bola Negra” during NewFest 2026.

Close is expected to receive an honorary Oscar at the 17th Annual Governors Awards in Hollywood next month.
